Trama
"Non è possibile... era ancora vivo quando l'ho sepolto!!"
Marty, gelosissimo di sua moglie Abby, pensa che lei abbia una relazione. In effetti la donna è l'amante di Ray, dipendente di suo marito. Marty allora ingaggia il detective privato Loren Visser perchè trovi le prove dell'adulterio. Davanti alle foto chiederà a Visser stesso di uccidere la coppia. Ma il detective ha piani suoi.
Dal punto di vista stilistico i Coen lavorano a sottrazione: ridotti all'osso i dialoghi, quasi del tutto assente la musica, a fare da sottofondo ci sono piuttosto il ronzare delle pale del ventilatore, il rimbombo di passi minacciosi o il graffiare metallico di una pala sull'asfalto, e dove la musica è presente è in opposizione alla tensione delle scene, come ad esempio nella sequenza in cui un cadavere viene seppellito sul sottofondo di festosa canzone mariachi messicana. Già piena di lampi di classe la regia, eleganti carrellate si alternano a rapide inquadrature per mettere in risalto i dettagli più importanti della trama.
