Trama
"Siate coraggiosi. Rinunciate al dono della vista."
Un uomo, concepito da uno scienziato con l'ambizione di creare l'essere più intelligente del mondo, invecchia prematuramente per via di un grosso problema: non riesce a sognare. Aiutato dai suoi fratelli, concepiti anche questi in provetta (sono infatti dei cloni), rapisce i bambini della città portuale per poterne rubare i sogni e trovare la cura alla sua malattia prima di morire. Il problema con i bambini che rapisce è che fanno sempre e solo incubi, fondamentalmente perché hanno paura proprio di lui, e per questo non c'è modo di trovare una soluzione.
Ma un giorno rapisce Denrée, il fratello di One, il ragazzo che fa dimostrazioni di forza per strada per guadagnarsi da vivere. One ha soltanto Denrée al mondo e si mette subito alla sua ricerca. Durante il suo pellegrinaggio incontra Miette, un'orfana di nove anni a capo di una baby gang di ladri. Miette vede in One la famiglia che non ha mai avuto e decide di aiutarlo nella ricerca, vivendo mille peripezie.
Il film venne presentato in concorso al 48º Festival di Cannes e ricevette un grande successo a livello internazionale.
La pellicola in Italia (nonostante il grande successo del precedente Delicatessen) è stata distribuita solo per il mercato dell'home video.
Per gli amanti del genere SteamPunk, per chi ha amato Brazil, Delicatessen, le fiabe nere e non teme le bizzarrie…
