Trama
The professional and personal lives of those who work in advertising on Madison Avenue - self-coined "mad men" - in the 1960s are presented. The stories focus on those at one of the avenue's smaller firms, Sterling Cooper, and its various incarnations over the decade. At the heart of these stories is Donald Draper, the creative genius of the company. That professional creative brilliance belies the fact of a troubled childhood, one that he would rather forget and not let anyone know about except for a select few, but one that shaped who he is as an adult and as an ad man in the need not only to sell products but sell himself to the outside world. His outward confidence also masks many insecurities as evidenced through his many vices, such as excessive smoking, drinking and womanizing - the latter despite being a family man - and how he deals with the aftermath of some of the negative aspects of his life.
Mad Men è una serie televisiva statunitense prodotta dal 2007.
Ideata da Matthew Weiner, la serie utilizza il mondo pubblicitario di New York degli anni sessanta come specchio per raccontare i grandi cambiamenti avvenuti nella società americana durante il decennio.
La serie è trasmessa in prima visione assoluta negli Stati Uniti da AMC dal 19 luglio 2007. In Italia ha debuttato in prima visione satellitare il 18 marzo 2008, trasmessa prima da Cult (dalla prima alla terza stagione) e da FX (quarta stagione); in chiaro le prime cinque stagioni sono state trasmesse da Rai 4, mentre la sesta è stata resa disponibile il 13 maggio 2014 sul sito on demand TIMvision e da oggi su tntvillage :giggle:
Ambientata nella New York degli anni sessanta, la serie tratteggia le vite di alcuni pubblicitari che lavorano per l'agenzia pubblicitaria Sterling Cooper (poi Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce) di Madison Avenue, concentrandosi in particolare sulle vicende del suo direttore creativo, Don Draper. L'ambientazione della serie ritrae i mutamenti sociali in atto negli Stati Uniti in quel determinato periodo storico: fra gli eventi citati nel corso delle varie stagioni, la campagna presidenziale che contrappose John Kennedy a Richard Nixon (1960), la crisi dei missili di Cuba (1962), l'assassinio di Kennedy (1963), le lotte per la conquista dei diritti civili degli afroamericani.
