Though updated for the present time and reworked slightly, The Night Manager stays forcefully true to the characterizations and atmosphere of Le Carre's classic spy novel. Tom Hiddleston shines as the complicated protagonist, and Huge Laurie and Olivia Colman provide forceful screen presence to offset his vulnerably self-contained persona.
Fans of Le Carre's work are likely to enjoy The Night Manager, as are those who enjoy an atmospheric mystery populated with beautiful men and women, intelligent writing, and international stakes. Not a series to watch without paying attention, it is a series well worth the time and effort to absorb and enjoy it fully.
The Night Manager vede protagonista Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), ex militare ed agente dei servizi segreti, ora direttore d'albergo notturno in un hotel di lusso dopo aver lasciato il servizio attivo nel corrotto ambiente dei servizi segreti. Una notte Pine incontra Sophie, una donna arabo-francese che gli fornisce informazioni su Richard Onslow Roper (Hugh Laurie), contrabbandiere specializzato in armi il quale, sotto una patina di rispettabilita' e fascino, gestisce da decenni una spietata organizzazione criminale. Il tradimento di Sophie ne causa la sua morte cosi' che Pine, collaborando con l'agente federale Angela Burr (Olivia Colman), si infiltra nell'organizzazione criminale di Roper per vendicare la donna. Operando sotto una falsa identita' da malavitoso fuggiasco, Jonathan viene introdotto nel mondo dello spietato contrabbandiere il quale arrivera' a fidarsi di lui e a farlo entrare nel suo ambiguo e favoloso entourage.
La serie e' tratta dall'omonimo libro di John le Carre' del 1993 ed e' stata presentata in anteprima al Festival di Berlino a febbraio 2016.
