Il pistolero Spirito Santo possiede la mappa di una miniera d'oro, dalla quale, però - conseguenza di un colpo di pistola - manca proprio l'indicazione risolutiva. Partito in cerca delle persone in grado di completare le sue informazioni, egli libera dalle mani di alcuni rivoltosi il presidente don Firmino - rovesciato dal generale Ubarte, che ha preso il suo posto - e sua figlia Juana. L'uomo, però, non ricorda più dove si trovi la miniera; mirando sempre al suo scopo, Spirito Santo si lascia convincere dalla figlia di don Firmino, che è un'accesa rivoluzionaria, a porsi alla testa degli uomini che vogliono rovesciare Ubarte. Avendo al proprio fianco il forzuto Carezza, un ex malvivente apparentemente convertito alla setta dei mormoni, egli comincia, dopo una regolare dichiarazione, la guerra contro Ubarte, nella quale raccoglie un successo dopo l'altro. Vista la mala parata, il generale - che ha avuto modo, nel frattempo, di sfruttare appieno la miniera di Spirito Santo - decide di filarsela, portando con sé tutto l'oro accumulato. Penetrato nel suo quartier generale, Spirito Santo manda a monte il piano di Ubarte, ma trova, nei sacchi che avrebbero dovuto contenere l'oro, soltanto piombo. Sapendo a chi attribuire l'inganno, affronta l'infedele braccio destro di Ubarte, ammazza sia lui che i suoi fratelli e, mentre Juana e il padre festeggiano la vittoria della loro causa, s'allontana con l'oro, dopo avere evitato che a impadronirsene fosse l'infido Carezza.
