Serafino Benvenuti è un patito della musica classica: ex direttore di banda a Torre Annunziata, acquistando l'eredità di un fiorente pastificio ha avuto la possibilità di realizzare, almeno in parte, i suoi sogni, dirigendo concerti sinfonici in sale prese in affitto con spettatori pagati e tacitati dal suo fedele Orazio. Dal Cile sta attendendo un'orfanella che egli ha adottato, confidando di indirizzarla alla musica classica come concertista di piano. L'unica spina nella vita di Serafino è la nuova musica in voga tra i giovani che gli giunge fin nel cuore della notte da un localetto che Franco, un giovane cantautore, ha aperto nello stabile di fronte e che i giovani frequentano allegramente. I dispiaceri del maestro, però, aumentano quando Rita, l'orfanella cilena, giunge e si rivela appassionata interprete di canzoni moderne. Anzi tra lei e Franco non tarda l'intesa, che diviene affetto, nonostante la sorveglianza di Greta, una specie di cerbero teutonico messa accanto alla ragazza come istitutrice. L'ingresso in sordina nel locale di Franco dà però a Serafino modo di essere attratto dalla nuova musica e di assaporare il successo in mezzo ai giovani.
Serafino Benvenuti is a fan of classical music: former band manager at Torre Annunziata, buying the legacy of a thriving pasta factory he had the opportunity to realize, at least in part, his dreams, conducting symphonic concerts in rooms rented with spectators paid and silenced by his faithful Horace. From Chile he is waiting for an orphan that he has adopted, trusting to direct it to classical music as a piano concert performer. The only thorn in the life of Serafino is the new music in vogue among young people that reaches him in the middle of the night from a small place that Franco, a young singer-songwriter, has opened in the building opposite and that young people happily attend. The sorrows of the teacher, however, increase when Rita, the Chilean orphan girl, comes and turns out to be a passionate interpreter of modern songs. On the contrary, between her and Franco, the agreement does not delay, which becomes affection, despite Greta's surveillance, a sort of Teutonic Cerberus placed next to the girl as a governess. The quiet entry into the premises of Franco, however, gives Serafino way of being attracted by new music and savoring success among young people.
