Anna Karenina è un film del 2012 diretto da Joe Wright, tratto dall'omonimo romanzo di Lev Tolstoj. La vicenda è ambientata in Russia nell'Ottocento e ha come protagonista Anna Karenina (Keira Knightley), una donna intrappolata in un matrimonio infelice dal quale non può fuggire a causa delle severe e ortodosse convenzioni sociali. La vita monotona di Anna viene interrotta da un'improvvisa e urgente chiamata a San Pietroburgo. Suo fratello Oblonsky (Matthew Macfadyen), infatti, la prega di correre in suo aiuto per persuadere la moglie Dolly (Kelly Macdonald) a non lasciarlo dopo aver scoperto le sue ripetute infedeltà. Durante il viaggio, Anna incontra il conte Vronskij (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), che risveglierà in lei sentimenti reconditi e potenti, mostrandole la possibilità di condurre la vita di una donna amata e appagata. Dopo diversi tentativi di allontanarsi da Vronskij, Anna cede alla passione e all'attrazione. Una storia d'amore con il conte, tuttavia, determinerebbe la fine del suo matrimonio con Aleksej Karenin (Jude Law) e il conseguente allontanamento da suo figlio Serëža. Anna si trova così costretta ad affrontare un pubblico spietato, che non ha alcuna pietà per il suo amore, e la collera di suo marito che si ostina a non volerla lasciar andare. La situazione si complicherà ulteriormente quando Anna annuncerà di essere in attesa di un bambino...
