The chaotic aftermath of an alien attack has left most of the world completely incapacitated. La quarta stagione si è chiusa con un grande colpo di scena: [spoiler]Tom vede un essere apparentemente nuovo, un alieno o una creatura non ben identificata.[/spoiler] La quinta stagione riparte basandosi su questa scoperta che si rivelerà fondamentale.
Dopo la distruzione del nucleo del potere degli Espheni, la loro occupazione della Terra sta vacillando. Ogni tipo di tecnologia meccanica che gli appartiene è disattivata, gli alieni si trovano quindi spiazzati e disarmati.
Tom, nel mezzo dello spazio, trova la salvezza grazie ad un alieno misterioso, nonché grande nemico degli Espheni. Tornato sulla Terra, Tom conduce il gruppo II Mass verso una serie di raid contro i luoghi chiave degli Espheni, cercando di smantellare così tutta la loro organizzazione.
Il II Mass insieme ai nuovi alleati, dovrà cercare di affrontare ostacoli sempre più difficili per ottenere la salvezza loro e della Terra intera e battere definitivamente i nemici Espheni.
