La trama tratta la vita di Abby O’Brien (Ory), una donna d’affari divorziata e madre di due gemelle, che da New York ritorna nel suo paese natale a Chesapeake Shores,nel Maryland per poter aiutare sua sorella con i problemi finanziari dovuti al quasi fallimento della locanda di famiglia. Qui dovrà affrontare gli scheletri del passato: il suo amore liceale Trace (Metcalfe) che ha lasciato bruscamente dieci anni prima; il rapporto con un padre Mick (Treat Williams) severo ed intransigente e la sua adorata nonna Nell (Ladd). Abby capisce che deve riprendere in mano la sua vita e decide di restare in modo permanente a Chesapeake Shores.
